Patricia and Robert Goyer were active in children's theater while growing up in Indiana. They met one another at DePauw University, while involved in a play. Patricia became a high school drama teacher and was later one of the founders of the Children's Theater program in Athens, Ohio, where they were also active in Ohio Valley Summer Theater. They moved to Chandler, Arizona in 1981 when Robert accepted the position as Chair of the Communication Department at ASU. They were founders of Chandler Children's Theatre (CCT), serving on the board for many years. The Goyers continued to be strong supporters for many years after CCT became EVCT in 1997. Patricia passed in 2013 and Robert in 2018.

The Goyers' daughters Amy, Linda, and Susie established the Patricia and Robert Goyer Memorial Scholarship Fund at EVCT to honor their parents' lifelong passion for the arts and to continue their parents' work giving children opportunities to experience theater at a young age.

Scholarships are awarded to deserving students so they can enroll in an EVCT program at a reduced rate, or at no personal cost. The Goyer family understands that theater education provides important life skills, and socio-economic circumstances should not limit those seeking opportunities in theater.

EVCT is a 501c3 nonprofit, with EIN 86-0599251. Donations to this organization are tax exempt.
